2026 REGULAR MEETING MINUTES
A Regular Meeting of the Dundee Township Board was
held Tuesday May 12, 2026. Supervisor Charter called the meeting to order at
7:00 p.m. All present recited The Pledge of Allegiance.
Present were Trustees: Alana
Horkey, Ken Jaworski, Timothy Miles, Gary Lazette, Supervisor Ronald Charter,
Clerk Karla Ziesmer, and Treasurer Lisa Ost. Clerk Ziesmer did roll call.

Treasurer Ost moved to revise the
agenda by moving the Supervisor’s report to the end of official reports and
moving public comment to after new business to allow comment on all agenda and
non-agenda items. Trustee Jaworski seconded. Motion carried.

Treasurer Ost moved to approve the Regular
Meeting Minutes held on April 28, 2026, and waive the reading of such. Trustee Horkey
seconded. Motion carried.

Treasurer Ost moved to place
correspondence on file and waive the reading of such. Trustee Lazette seconded.

REPORTS
LIBRARY:
Jennifer Grunewski reported the Dundee Branch Library ranked
third in circulation among the sixteen Monroe County Library System branches
for March. Attendance totaled 516 participants for library programs. Interior
painting of the library was completed, including the stairwell and lower level,
while remaining open during the process. The Friends of the Library contributed
approximately $3,000 toward trim painting expenses. Summer reading programming,
themed “Unearth a Story,” will begin soon with several special activities
planned.

BUILDING
DEPARTMENT: No report at this time
FIRE DEPARTMENT: Fire Department: The Fire Department reported 75
calls for April, including 57 village calls, 15 township calls, and 3 mutual
aid calls. Discussion was held regarding a proposed $31,000 repair to a fire
truck engine through Patriot Fire Services, including a five-year warranty. The
Board agreed to postpone action pending additional information and further
discussion with the Fire Chief.
TREASURER
LISA OST: No report at this time
TRUSTEE
GARY LAZETTE: Complimented the library painting project and
thanked Tanya for newspaper corrections.
CLERK
KARLA ZIESMER: The May 5, 2026 Election ran smoothly and thanked
election workers for their continued service. Dundee Township had less than
1000 voters.
TRUSTEE
TIM MILES: Reported progress on the township website and
requested community photographs for the website slideshow.
TRUSTEE
KEN JAWORSKI: No cemetery complaints following Mother’s Day.
TRUSTEE
ALANA HORKEY: Gave her thanks to the library staff for all of the
wonderful programs.
SUPERVISOR
CHARTER: Reported assisting residents with road restoration and drainage concerns.
OLD
BUSINESS: Supervisor Charter provided additional information from Monroe County
Road Commission representatives regarding dust control options previously
discussed by the Board. Trustee Horkey moved to rescind the previously approved
Proposal No. 1 and approve Proposal No. 2 for shoulder-to-shoulder mineral well
brine application with an additional center application in the amount of
$51,090. Treasurer Ost seconded. Motion carried.
NEW
BUSINESS:

Data
Center Moratorium Extension: Discussion was held regarding extending the
township’s current data center moratorium. Trustee Lazette moved to adopt
Resolution No. 2026-4 extending the data center moratorium from June 22, 2026
through June 22, 2027. Clerk Ziesmer seconded. Motion carried by roll call vote
(all yes). Resolution adopted.

Battery
Energy Storage System (BESS): Discussion was held regarding Public Act 233 and
the need for a compatible renewable energy ordinance addressing battery energy
storage systems. Board members discussed directing the Planning Commission to
begin work on a BESS ordinance while continuing work related to the data center
ordinance and master plan updates. No formal action was taken.
PUBLIC
COMMENT: Several residents and neighboring community members addressed the Board
regarding concerns over data centers, battery energy storage systems,
groundwater protection, karst geology, environmental impacts, Public Act 233,
and local control. Residents also announced upcoming public meetings and
encouraged continued community involvement.
Additional
board comments: Board members discussed concerns related to Public
Act 233, local government authority, hazardous material training for
firefighters, and public engagement regarding future development decisions.
Trustee
Horkey moved to pay bills in the amount of $31,215.62. Treasurer Ost seconded.
Motion carried.
Trustee
Jaworski motioned to adjourn the meeting at 7:44 p.m. Treasurer Ost seconded.
Motion carried.

be May 26, 2026, at 7:00 P.M.
