A Regular Meeting of the Dundee Township Board was held Tuesday January 14, 2025. Supervisor Lewis called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. All present recited The Pledge of Allegiance.

 

Present were: Trustees: Alana Horkey, Ken Jaworski, Tim Miles, Gary Lazette, Supervisor Lewis, Clerk Ziesmer, Treasurer Hunt. Clerk Ziesmer did roll call.

 

  • Treasurer Hunt motioned to adopt the agenda. Trustee Jaworski supported. Motion carried.
  • Treasurer Hunt motioned to approve the minutes from the regular meeting held on December 10, 2024. Trustee Horkey seconded. Trustee Lazette abstained. Motion carried.
  • Treasurer Hunt motioned accept and waive the reading of the one correspondence and place on file. Trustee Horkey Seconded. Motion carried.
  • Trustee Jaworski motioned to approve the Treasurer’s Report from November 2024. Treasurer Hunt seconded. Motion carried.

 

CORRESPONDENCE:  Dundee Township Fire Department Monthly Report (December)

                                       

PUBLIC COMMENT:

  • Brian Palka is asking the Township to write a letter to the Village, for special use for water, using one tap.
  • Rick Rod expressed his concerns on the fires happening out west.

 

OFFICIAL REPORTS

 

LIBRARY: The Monroe County Library system milage on taxes pays for only two of the seventeen buildings in the County. It pays for the Ellis Branch Library and the Administration building. All of the other 15 branches are owned by the local units of Government. Those local units of Government are the ones who fund those buildings. Everything inside the building: books, technology, media, and workers, is paid from the Millage. There have been some concerns expressed on social media regarding the Dundee Branch Library and funding. Through the end of 2024 Dundee is the 4th highest in the county, coming within 100 items of being the 3rd highest, checking out 33749 items. There were just over 7500 participants in the 2024 programs.

 

ASSESSING: No report at this time.

 

BUILDING DEPARTMENT: State of Michigan is working on updating Building codes from 2015 to 2024. The Hearing process for renewing the building codes will be starting soon.

 

FIRE DEPARTMENT:

  • Total calls for December were 98. Village Calls: 83, Township Calls: 14, Mutual Aid Calls: 1. Total calls for 2024 were 1109. Village Calls: 834, Township Calls: 241, Mutual Aid Calls: 34.
  • Treasurer Hunt motioned to pay Viking Consulting Group, LLC $6000.00 for mandatory FEMA compliant NIMS Training, for the Fire Department Staff and Treasurer Hunt. Trustee Horkey seconded. Motion carried.

 

TREASURER LISA HUNT: Continuing to collect taxes and getting things around for budget.

 

TRUSTEE GARY LAZETTE:  

  • There is a vacancy at the River Raisin Water Shed Council. Trustee Lazette motioned to appoint Supervisor Lewis to take on that position. Trustee Horkey seconded. All opposed.  Motion does not carry. Supervisor Lewis motioned to appoint Trustee Miles as the new representative of the RRWSC. Treasurer Hunt Seconded. Motion carried.
  • Looking over the minutes from the last meeting, Treasurer Hunt was looking into assigning a policy number to the Social Media Policy. We will discuss at a future meeting.

 

CLERK KARLA ZIESMER: Water District letters have been mailed out.

 

SUPERVISOR LEWIS: Trustee Jaworski motioned to send a letter to the Village on behalf of Brian Palka. Treasurer Hunt Seconded. Motion carried

 

TRUSTEE TIM MILES: Replied to Trustee Lazette in regards to a question asked at a previous meeting.

 

TRUSTEE KEN JAWORSKI: No report at this time.

 

TRUSTEE ALANA HORKEY:  No report at this time.

 

OLD BUSINESS:

  • There are two bids for Cemetery mowing. One open and one sealed. Open Cemetery bid from Cutting Edge Lawn and Landscape, Inc. gave a bid of: Maple Grove Cemetery, $375 per mowing. Oak Grove Cemetery, $525 per mowing. Leib Cemetery $125 per mowing. Sealed bid was from JP’s Lawn Care. The bid was for $27,000 for the entire year of Cemetery Maintenance duties for all three Cemetery’s. Trustee Jaworski motioned to hire JP’s Lawn Care for Cemetery Maintenance for the 2025 year. Trustee Miles seconded. Motion carried.
  • Supervisor Lewis has come up with some information on the DDA bylaws and dates along with a legal description of the land it covers. Treasurer Hunt will send a copy to Board members by e-mail.

 

NEW BUSINESS:

  • Trustee Miles motioned to approve the Poverty Guidelines Resolution for Dundee Township for the 2025 Assessment Year, giving it Resolution #2025-1. Clerk Ziesmer seconded.  Roll Call vote: Trustee Horkey: Yes, Trustee Jaworski: Yes, Trustee Miles: Yes, Supervisor Lewis: Yes, Trustee Lazette: Yes, Treasurer Hunt: Yes, Clerk Ziesmer: Yes. Motion carried.
  • Budget workshop will be scheduled at 5:00 pm on the following dates Jan 28, 2025 and Feb 11, 2025.

 

Additional board comments: Trustee Lazette expressed some concerns on the obscene balance the Village has at this time. He mentioned donating some of those funds to the Fire Department.

 

Trustee Lazette motioned to pay bills from January 9, 2024 in the amount of $23,136.44. Treasurer Hunt seconded. Motion Carried.

 

Trustee Jaworski motioned to adjourn at 7:44 p. m. Treasurer Hunt supported. Motion Carried.

 

The next meeting will be January 28, 2024 at 7:00PM.
