DUNDEE TOWNSHIP
SPECIAL MEETING
JUNE 15, 2010
The special meeting of the Dundee Township Board was held Tuesday June 15, 2010 at the Dundee Township Hall. Supervisor Uhl called the meeting to order at 6:10 p.m. Present were Supervisor Uhl, Clerk O'Lone, Treasurer Sontag and Trustees: Larson, Lazette, Juckette and Winkelman. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.
The purpose of the special meeting was to review the policies and procedures implemented by the Dundee Township Board.
With the recent tornado event that took place on June 6, 2010 a review is necessary to clarify and possibly adjust these procedures to maintain the utmost efficiency and protection to the township.
Supervisor Uhl and Trustee Lazette met with village officials earlier today and positive feedback was received from the community on the swift actions of the fire department and all individuals involved in the protection and cleanup of the entire township.
A cost compilation will need to be performed to access the property loss figures throughout the tornado's path.
The Red Cross is making a donation to the community. The township will possibly receive $10,000.00. This will be applied to the approximate $30,000.00 costs to date that were compiled for our fire department. There is also approximately $10,000.00 of costs submitted by area fire departments that responded for the storm and recovery. Since not all invoices have been submitted to date these are preliminary figures.
A large grinder will be brought in to the village for residents to bring their yard debris for removal from their property. The township website and the township notification system will be utilized to notify all residents of the time and place where the grinder will be available.
During times of emergency the merging of the township and village notification systems will be investigated to expedite information to all area residents. The local weather service will be contacted to see if they could directly place a message on the system, thus increasing the notification even further.
Another procedure investigated by the board was the communication surrounding the road commission. Board members are frustrated in the lack of initiative shown by the road commission in allowing the township to improve their primary road. Motion by Trustee Winkelman and supported by Trustee Larson to send Clerk O'Lone, Trustee Juckette and Treasurer Sontag to the road commission meeting to continue negotiations regarding Stowell Road. Motion carried.
Alternative options will need to be explored for funding of the fire department building. Supervisor Uhl will contact Pat McGow from Miller Canfield to establish guidelines for a special assessment district.
Trustee Lazette will contact grant writer Jennifer Coe to see if millages or low interest loans pertaining to the fire department will affect our ability to obtain grants.
Clerk O'Lone will obtain the dates and criteria needed to place a millage on the November ballot.
With no further discussion a motion was made by Trustee Winkelman and supported by Trustee Lazette to adjourn the meeting. Motion carried.
Time of adjournment was 8:00 p.m.
Respectfully Submitted,
Tira J. O'Lone
Township Clerk
